April 16, 2011: Tried this option today. We were told to get off the highway by workers at the toll road. Forced to an exit by more toll road workers. Then picked up by the police and dropped off the station back to Barcelona. Incredibly hard to hitch hike from this area because it's highly discouraged.
There is a good petrol-station along the C33 (which leads to the Autopista del Mediterraneo, AP7/ E15) just 10 minutes away from Barcelona city center by train. You can find cars going to Girona, Figueres and sometimes eve much further, straight into France.
