The highway no longer passes through Trebnje, so taking the train there isn't such a good option
If you really can't get a lift out, the train is fairly cheap- €17.90 one-way to Zagreb and lasts 2.5 hours. The last train on Saturday is 9.15pm- as I recall from experience.
