NOTE: I tried this Mottingham hitching spot in July 2010 and had NO luck all day, would not recommend it, BUT the best spot for hitching out of london is a Service station that is directly on the motorway to Maidstone services, Dover etc. Take the bus to Foots Cray Tesco (I know it leaves from New Cross amongst other places). At the Tesco take a right out from the front and head towards Swanley, you will pass a BMW garage and eventually get to a Services with a McDonalds. You will need to get through the fence (there should be a hole), but this will be the best way to get out of London currently.
'''Alternative to Mottingham:''' You can get onto M20 from Swanley. Get a train to Kent from London Victoria to Swanley (Ashford International, Gillingham, Seven Oakes, etc.). Some trains will go directly there, otherwise change at Bromley South. Walk into town from Swanley the train stion, and take the A20 heading taking London Road, out of towntowards the M20. On the way there is a Texaco petrol station that seems quite busy. Further down (where I hitchhiked, August 2012) there is a big parking space, with a greasy spoon van if you're hungry or in need of a cup of coffee. The road takes you straight down to the M25, which leads south towards Maidstone and Dovermotorway. <map lat='51.3902018510923' lng='0.188269615173336' zoom='15' view='0' float='right' />
