The border to [[Algeria]] is closed.
Hitchhiking to Mauritania is suprisingly easy at the Mauritanian embassy in Rabat. Anyone going to Mauritania must stop there first to get the visa (no longer available at the mauritanian border), and you will have many long hours of waiting for the final paper in which to talk to the various drivers going south.
