La Slovenia è uno stato situato nel sud Europa. E' un membro dell'Unione Europea e aderisce al Trattato di Schengen. Fare autostop oggi in Slovenia non è così popolare come lo era in passato, molte persone potrebbero rimanere sorprese nel vedervi cercare un passaggio. Ma nonostante ciò è possibile e sicuro viaggiare in autostop. Molte persone parlano inglese ma anche il tedesco è parlato da buona parte degli sloveni.
Essendo uno stato di dimensioni minori, rispetto all'Italia, attraversare il paese in breve tempo è molto semplice, grazie anche alla buona rete autostradale, ma fare autostop in strade di campagna rimane un efficace alternativa sopratutto se non avete fretta di raggiungere la vostra destinazione. Potete raggiungere la più alta montagna (Triglav, 2864m) dal mare Adriatico , e viceversa, in circa due ore.
Dalla capitale, Ljubljana, è possibile raggiungibile facilmente (Maribor a nord est, Austria), (Jesenice ,Austria) nord ovest, sud (Croazia, Zagrebia) e ovest (Postumia, Italia). Il punto di partenza migliore dove iniziare ad "autostoppare" sono gli ingressi nelle autostrade, e usare un cartello con la vostra destinazione. Fare autostop in aree rurali è più facile ed è possibile trovare un passaggio persino in strade secondarie. Le autostrada sono ben servite da aeree riposo e aree di servizio.
Fare autostop alle uscite delle aree di servizio, può essere un modo veloce ed efficacie per trovare un passaggio, sopratutto se non parlate sloveno e non riuscite a chiedere un passaggio ad autisti.

Border Crossings
Sometimes drivers are not that friendly and they don't wish to take you abroad, sometimes they even leave you just before the border crossing. But don't worry! If you are going to Italy (Trieste, Venice), your best option is to hitchhike till the border city (Sezana) and from there take a bus (€1.90) till the Italian village of Villa Opicina. From there you can take plenty of buses to Trst (Trieste) and continue to Venice. From begining of December 2011. there is no train from Sežana to Villa Opicina or any other connection from Slovenia to Italy.Reference. Border is also not a problem anymore, because there is schengen rule and no border crossings any more. If you want to hitchike to Trieste or further to Italy, walk on main road left from train station towards BTC sign, and try to catch a ride to Trieste or Villa Opicina. If you are going to Zagreb, and you were not lucky enough to get a direct ride, try to get to a city called Brezice. From there take either a bus or a local train to the border village called Dobova, from which there is every two hours a cheap local train to Zagreb (€1.50).
Crossing from Austria to Slovenia : If you don't get a ride to Ljubljana, there is a point some 60km before ljubljana where trucks are weighed and presumably the old border check point was in place. Get out here and you can hitch all the cars and possibly even get a ride to Croatia / Serbia as you'll be catching all the traffic coming from Austria. Jass received a ride in September 2012 after 5 minutes of waiting to eastern Croatia (but should have exited in Zagreb as there is little traffic on any rest station in Croatia).
