The weather is extremely important for hitchhiking. Rain is no fun. Snow is okay if you have warm clothes.

When you stand next to the road and it starts raining, your chances that somebody stops quadruple for a couple of minutes until you are wet, then your chances drop towards zero. Therefore, keep smiling when it starts raining and the first few drops come down.

Some have also reported that lightning can actually work in your advantage. Be careful with trees though.
