Vietnam is a country in South East Asia, with borders with Cambodia, Laos and China.

On the Hanoi-Saigon highway hitching with trucks is pretty easy, it's quite a long way though. took me 5 days, going mellow. The thousands of motorbikes are annoying and potentially every one is a taxi as well. You can get free rides with them though. Ending up in cities is - for this reason - always bad. Try to avoid it. Getting out of Hanoi is pretty easy is you go by bus to the beginning of the expressway. Good place to get a ride.

In Saigon you wont have the feeling to be OUT of the city for a very long time... But don' t worry. in rural areas hitching is also pretty easy, you may get rides by buses too. just make sure before you enter anywhere if they want money. Vietnamese are pretty pushy, but in my opinion you get the better people if you hitch rather than taking a bus.

Police is corrupt, but no problem for hitchhikers.

You may even try to get a boat ride on the Mekong.
