Welcome to Hitchwiki! We hope you will contribute much and well. You will probably want to read the help pages. Again, welcome and have fun! Tobias (talk) 10:11, 8 August 2022 (CEST)

Serbia

Editing the Serbia page to say that it is not easy to hitchhike at all based on only one personal experience seems a bit excessive when both French and German (and formerly the English) pages say it's quite easy. Maybe it's better to keep it in the section about experiences and remove the part saying it's hard/easy from the main section if you disagree.

I will be going through Serbia tomorrow and also add my own experience. Hopefully, I will have more luck! --Rebew (talk) 12:38, 15 August 2022 (CEST)

Got it. Perhaps I do agree with you, that my suggestion is made of subjectif experience but editing the Greece part of hitchwiki I found that data there is not matching reality anymore, it's out of date and thought that it is a same stuff with Serbia, thus I adopted it more. I agree that my personal experience can not really show the reality there, however all my trip in Serbia was with minimum waiting of 3h before sm1 stoped. At least 5 times not depending on quality of waiting spot. By that reason I summited that Serbia is not easy country to hitchhike, based on personal but repeating observation.

Good luck with Serbia, perhaps you can re-edit Serbia part after your trip, and thus we will have more real data. --HHer-Vert 11:48, 16 August 2022 (CEST)

Turns out you were right. I still believe that just our two accounts aren't enough to warrant marking Serbia as "hard to hitchhike", especially after talking to others in the Signal group where it was a 50/50 split between "very easy" and "very hard". My waiting time averaged around 1.5hrs for four rides across the whole country. Similar experiences in the Serb dominated regions of the Balkans, such as Republica Srpska and Montenegro. My theory is that it was my appearance, which was adequate for most Westerners but perhaps not for Serbs. A Serbian guy in Montenegro told me that he believes I look like a stoner, making him hesitate to pick me up. A few others told me they picked me up because I, quote(!), "do not look like a refugee". Looking ever so slightly Arab or Black would've made them change their mind, blatant racism. All in all a bad experience. I wanted to leave immediately. --Rebew (talk) 13:39, 22 September 2022 (CEST)
