Serbia
Turns out you were right. I still believe that just our two accounts aren't enough to warrant marking Serbia as "hard to hitchhike", especially after talking to others in the Signal group where it was a 50/50 split between "very easy" and "very hard". My waiting time averaged around 1.5hrs for four rides across the whole country. Similar experiences in the Serb dominated regions of the Balkans, such as Republica Srpska and Montenegro. My theory is that it was my appearance, which was adequate for most Westerners but perhaps not for Serbs. A Serbian guy in Montenegro told me that he believes I look like a stoner, making him hesitate to pick me up. A few others told me they picked me up because I, quote(!), "do not look like a refugee". Looking ever so slightly Arab or Black would've made them change their mind, blatant racism. All in all a bad experience. I wanted to leave immediately. --Rebew (talk) 13:39, 22 September 2022 (CEST)

Thank you for your sharing Rebew (talk). Now in the Serbia's topic there is no definition of it's easy or hard to hitchhike. I let only the avarage waiting time there, so people can decide by themselves if it's easy or not for them.

Indeed, the refuge topic in Balkans flourishes: when I was leaving Serbia, the taxi driver told me about refuges and the civil war between Kosovo, so that for sure not facilities the situation with hitchhikers. By the way, the same taxi driver explained me also why he picked me: "because I looked like a stranger", funny, but I guess that means exactly the same what they told you. Therefore I guess they really judge by appearance. --
