My name is Robert, I'm Dutch and and right now I live in Belgium.
Despite the fact that I'm now a double grandfather, hitchhiking is still my favorite way of traveling, although I don't seem to have the time to do a lot of it right now.
I started in 1980, have now covered some 264,157.3 km, averaging close to 10,000 km per year during all the years that I hitched - in 1981 and 1984 I didn't.
I've done almost all my hitching in Europe, the two exceptions took place in 1990 (Turkey) and 2001 (Japan - only in Japan, not to Japan)
