The good [[hitchhiking]] spots in [[Israel]] are called '''trempiyadas'''.  To hitchhike is ''tremp'' (from German ''trampen'') and ''yad'' means hand.  Most trempiyadas are actually bus stops.  Often taxis and other forms of paid transport will be confused there and it can be useful to just use your thumb instead of the common Israeli hand gesture.
