What to look out for in Tennessee-

Republicans. Tennessee (and most of the southern United States) is notorious for being very conservative in their actions and opinions. Plan accordingly to avoid scuffles, arguments, and possible bake sales. Not everybody is that bad, but there are enough of them to be careful none the less.

Musicians are greatly appreciated here. Street performing, especially country-related, is a great way to generate revenue for your hitchhiking experience.

Contrary to popular belief, hitchhiking is NOT ILLEGIAL in Tennessee. There is a loophole in the law regarding such, so that as long as you stand on an onramp, you can hitchhike without trouble from the police. Carrying a sign is alright, as long as it's humorous. People respond much better to a sign that has personality than despair.

Sales tax in Tennessee is very high- almost ten percent. That means in general, money is tighter than usual. Luckily, there are plenty of Dollar Generals, Wal-Marts, and gas stations to circumvent this cost.
