Suggestion

Maybe you can change it to include asking for the creation of a User page, i.e:

Hello, Whoeverelse! Welcome to Hitchwiki! Thank you for your contributions. You might find the following useful:

I hope you like it here and continue to contribute. If you have any questions, you can ask me on my talk page or ask at the community portal. For what it's worth, we would appreciate it if you could make your own User:Whoeverelse page (you can do so by clicking on the link) and tell us a little bit, or even lots, about yourself. And again, welcome! -- Prinoblog, talk 19:21, 13 September 2015 (CEST)

Thanks for the suggestion! Honestly, though, I'm not such a fan of that myself. (You may notice that I don't have a user page.) In general, I don't like telling people what to do, and especially so in a welcome message, and I don't think anyone should ever be made to feel like they should create a user page. And since you have to create an account in order to edit, it seems rather inappropriate to me to then ask them to post any sort of personal information on a public website. If people want to help other hitchhikers without also giving up information about themselves, I think we need to respect that. Cheers, -- Irningston (talk) 17:49, 14 September 2015 (CEST)
