When hitch-hiking in Russia and other Eastern-European Countries, beware that some drivers expect money for the ride (especially so, say, at resorts like Crimea in the Summer). The best thing is to make driver aware you're hitch-hiking before you get in the car. Otherwise you may find yourself in a bad situation afterwards.

Guide to Transcription

  • o is pronounced [ɔ] - "to" is pronounced as "taw" (English pronunciation) etc.
  • u is pronounced [ʊ] - short oo in English
  • Bold font is used to indicate the accent on a particular vowel.
  • Dashes (-) are added to make the reading easier - they separate some syllables of the words, but do not introduce any pause in pronunciation.
