Copy-paste appropriate from Wikitravel?
Hello. I’m Vidimian from Wikitravel. I’ve written about hitching opportunities (good spots where to hitch, how to get there by public transportation) on some Turkish cities at Wikitravel. I guess it would be nice if they are incorporated here as well, if there are no copyright issues to deal with. If there is, please let me know if I can do anything about it (such as granting a permission, rewording, copy-pasting directly by myself, etc). I would gladly write them here myself, but I’m afraid I don’t have enough time for that now.

Here is a list of the spots I’ve chattered about in Wikitravel. All of them (except Istanbul-east) were tried and proved to be succesfull either by myself or my friends.
+
+
* Istanbul:
+
* Antalya:
+
* Konya:
+
* Tekirdag: , there is also a small section at “get in” about approaching the city by thumb.
+
* Kesan crossroad, best hitching spot in whole Eastern Thrace (European Turkey):
+
+
I have of course hitched in elsewhere, too, but most of them were only small towns and I felt it is kinda silly to note down that ‘there is a good hitching spot at the edge of town – totally visible from town centre which is 5 minutes walk away’. But as this wiki is more specific about hitchhiking, maybe I should write them here?
+
+
And I’ve also written a couple articles about general hitching info.
+

* Turkey:

* Mersin Province (eastern part of Turkish Mediterranean Region, not to be confused with the city of Mersin which serves as the capital of the province):

Do we list all locations with names starting with the same letter on the same bullet (as how it appears on this page at the moment), or should we list each location on its exclusive bullet? And can I delete Ankara, Denizli, and Izmir from the list (as they are mere empty red links at the moment) or do we list a number of biggest cities in every country article, no matter whether they have anything written about or not? --Vidimian 17:32, 21 December 2008 (UTC)

:I don't think we have guidelines for how to make city lists (and I'm not sure if we need them :) I just think there should be articles about Ankara and Izmir, and the red links might inspire someone to start an article some time. So basically, yeah, we list the biggest city of a country (or region), even if it means red links. :::Jep, until now we mostly listed the biggest cities of a country/state/whatever, even when there are no articles of them. The idea behind that is/was that people see oh, no info about Ankara, so let's write some. As there are more and more Turkish cities coming up now, it might be time for a city template, like Template:Cities Germany. Will start working on this later today :-) --Platschi 08:47, 22 December 2008 (UTC)

Our Story
2 guys, Kiwi & British, currently hitching across south of Turkey towards Syria. Absolutely no problems finding rides, haven't waited for more than 30 mins for a lift. Everyone's very generous and will usually offer to buy us food etc. or will invite us to do what they're doing for the day (beach, picnics, etc.). Would like to add thumbs to the Turkish map, but google maps doesnt work in Turkey. If someone else wants to do it, we got rides in Bodrum, Akyaka, Ortaca, Fethiye, Saklikent, Kas, Olympos, Antalya, Konya, Goreme, Kayseri, Sivas, Trabzen. Will update this as we go. Also, creating/updating pages as I can --Alecofnz 14:22, 21 July 2010 (UTC)

::Oh, that's great. However, as far as I can follow from the above list you've been adding, you have headed inland after Antalya, which makes my above comment nullified—both of the places I've mentioned as having long waits are on the coast east of Antalya. On the other hand, if you have really traversed those places (Alanya & Anamur) without waiting a significant length of time beside the road, then you deserve a rather big applause. :) Vidimian 23:46, 30 July 2010 (UTC)

:::Ah, yeah, after Antalya, our plans changed, and we hitched across the country to Georgia instead.. People inland seemed a lot more hospitable than those on the south west coast (My theory is that they're not used to tourists). Everyone offered us water; Most people would offer us some form of food (usually fruit); One family even pulled over and after we determined that they were going in the wrong direction for us, they changed their plans for the day and shared their picnic with us on the side of the road. The black sea leg was incredibly easy.. picked up by one of the first 10 cars every time (have heard the same story from others we met in Georgia who also hitched along the black sea) --Alecofnz 13:05, 4 August 2010 (UTC)

::::I agree with your theory that wherever there is little tourism, people are friendlier towards hitchhikers and thus providing real quick lifts in Turkey.

 • Istanbul: [1]
 • Antalya: [2]
 • Konya: [3]
 • Tekirdag: [4], there is also a small section at “get in” about approaching the city by thumb.
 • Kesan crossroad, best hitching spot in whole Eastern Thrace (European Turkey): [5]

And I’ve also written a couple articles about general hitching info.

 • Turkey: [6]
 • Mersin Province (eastern part of Turkish Mediterranean Region, not to be confused with the city of Mersin which serves as the capital of the province): [7]

You can copy your contributions to Wikitravel anywhere if there have been no changes (apart from spelling correction). That includes copying them here. Information about small towns can be okay, especially if you have some more knowledge, e.g. about free wireless internet or so. However, we do have article about roads (mostly highways so far), and you could start them about routes in Turkey. guaka 13:09, 18 November 2008 (UTC)
