Nice, I did not know we can just use images from wikimedia commons directly. That makes it a lot easier, no need to upload all the flags of Russian republics. Was this function mentioned before somewhere? --Platschi 13:47, 7 November 2010 (CET)

A very prominent note on Special:Upload would be the most logical place

One problem remains with flags, the country templates expect the file name to have a specific format, and many files from Wikimedia do not follow this format, which means we still need .PNG's, or the template needs changing, requiring the full file name of the flag.
