I have thought and made up my mind that Maui will be for me. I am in a small town in California called Calexico. I grew up in California, And no at 43 am ready to learn to surf. - I'd say: your best option is probably to work for a flight ticket to Hawaii and hitchhike there - a one way can be had for less than 200$ I think. Otherwise, if you have skills you could try to hitch a boat to Hawaii, but I don't have a clue where you can do that. Meanwhile, to save money, check dumpster diving.
