: I agree with the original poster. Hitching through Austria, we got about 4 lifts from the Italian border to Munich. Not ONE of them was Austrian. 3 were German and 1 was Czech (who kindly brought from Innsbruck to Munich). Most Austrians simply darted past, without even looking at the sign when I had one. I waited for 2 hours in the rain one time until a friendly German picked me up. Definitley not a country I'd like to hitch through again!

Proposal to decrease hitchability of Austria

As many teams ancountered major difficulties during the abgefahren hitchhiking race 2010 hitching through austria, i suppose to decrease its hitchability to average. also most of our hitchers experienced problems hitchhing in austria on their way back home. my personal experience is that native austrian drivers rarely pick you up. we were mostly picked up by immigrants living in austria or by foreigners passing through the country. Are there any counter-arguments for not decreasing the hitchability of asutria? otherwise, i will do it at the end of the week --Quarim 10:33, 21 June 2010 (UTC)
