The Trans-African Highway 1, also known as Cairo-Dakar Highway connects Cairo in Egypt with Dakar in Senegal. Most of the road is completely paved, except for the border region between Morocco and Mauritania where it is only a track through the dessert.

In Dakar there is a connection to the Dakar-Lagos-Highway (TAH 7) and to the Dakar-N'Djamena-Highway (TAH 5). Remember, it is not possible to travel the entire highway, because the border between Algeria and Morroco is currently closed.
