I just blocked a number of spam accounts, and I also blocked a couple of accounts with no edits that were created at the same time, just in case. I'm not totally comfortable with this because I don't want to accidentally block a user who just happened to create an account at the same time as a spam attack, but a number of those accounts look suspicious, and two of them actually made some edits before I could pre-emptively block them.
