The busses who are heading for the suburbs and surrounding cities of San Jose costs normaly less then 300 C and departuring without timetable but most likely every 5 - 15 minutesIt should be alright to hitchhike from there.
Check out Go to the Terminal Caribe, from there 100 meters north. At the next intersection take a right and after 120 m you arrive at the hitchhiking spot.
