If you're going somewhere along the Panamerican Highway (East or West) it's better to take a bus to junction (4 Caminos) and start hitching from there. Ron tried to hitch from withing Xela and didn't work out. He ended up paying 5Q (~0.50€) for the bus to 4 Caminos. Found a ride within 30 minutes.

Quezaltenengo or Xela is a city in the highlands of Guatemala more popularly known by it's indigenous name Xela (shell-a), buses and such will display this name.

If you're going somewhere along the Panamerican Highway (East or West) it's better to take a bus to junction (4 Caminos) and start hitching from there. Ron tried to hitch from withing Xela and didn't work out. He ended up paying 5Q (~0.50€) for the bus to 4 Caminos. Found a ride within 30 minutes.
