Poznań is a city in western Poland with about 550 thousand inhabitants. It's a capital of Wielkoplskie region.

West towards Berlin, Germany

  • By national road (droga krajowa) 92:

Go to Ogrody (last station of trams 2, 7, 17, 18 and many buses) and take a bus no. 61 (not any other with the same terminus!)in direction: Krzyżowniki. Get out at the ninth stop called Ul. Wichrowa and walk along the road for about 300 m then you will see petrol station and McD's Ask drivers there or stay on the road with sign or thumb. Also about 100 m after this place is a bus stop so it's more convenient for drivers to stop their car.

  • By motorway (autostrada) A2, from toll booths:

Go to Ogrody (see above) and take bus no. 108 to Dopiewo/Lisowki. The bus stop in Ogrody is in front of Savoy Restaurant. Get out in Dopiewiec (don't mess it up as names are very similar). The ticket costs about 3 PLN and you can buy it at the bus driver. The ride takes about 40 minutes. Here's suburban bus network map and timetable. From there walk for about 1.5km and after that just jump over the fence and you're at the spot. Here's the route.

  • By motorway (autostrada) A2, from slip road:

From city centre e.g from bus stop Zamek, near the Castle Art Centre (Centrum Kultury Zamek) take bus no. 71 and go to the last stop called Os. Debina. From there walk south for about 800m. Here's the route. Unfortunately there is no emergency lane at the entrence to the motorway, so it might be tricky.

East towards Warszawa

  • By national road (droga krajowa) 92:

From city centre tak trams 6 or 8 to Milostowo and get out at the last stop. From there walk along the road about 100 m and you will see ORLEN petrol station. You can either ask drivers at the station or hitch at the end of it where is a place for cars to pull over. Optionally you can walk along the same road and after 200-300m you will see a bridge and Volkswagen factory. Hitch straight after the bridge on the bus stop (there is plenty of cars and trucks who are going by inner bypass around Poznan, so many of them are going for a longer distances, and you may avoid local traffic like it's possible at the first place mentioned).

Another option is getting to suburb town called Swarzedz. From city centre go to tram stop Rondo Srodka (trams 4, 17 direction Staroleka, 6, 8 direction Milostowo) and then take bus no S-1 from bus station behind LOTOS petrol station, direction Swarzedz). After about 20 minutes bus will turn left (near LIDL shop) then go out, turn back to the main road and hitch some meters after crossroad, junction, traffic lights, whatever. About 300 m further from this place there's Shell petrol station and huge parking for truckers. If you are not lucky there try also the traffic lights across the petrol station.

  • By motorway (autostrada) A2, from toll booths:

See direction Berlin, then just go to the other side of the road.

  • By motorway (autostrada) A2, from slip road:

See direction Berlin, then just check the road signs and the slip roads directions as two entrences are just next to each other. As mentioned above, there are no emergency lanes on entrences.

Getting to Gdańsk, Bydgoszcz (A1, E261/E75)

Take bus no. 73 from place called Rondo Sródka (towards Janikowo/Ogrodnicza) get out after something like 10-11 stops (about 15-18 minutes) at bus stop called BOGUCIN/BAŁTYCKA. Hitch on this bus stop, its on the road to Gniezno, Bydgoszcz and Gdańsk just after junction with Poznań ring road. You should notice railways nearby and crossed Poznań sign (end of city zone).
