Poznań is a city in the West of Poland. It has many nice pubs, special dialect and nice people. Even though, hitchhiking here requires definitely a lot of patience.

It's on route 92 (droga krajowa 92).
There is also A2, the highway, passing nearby. It starts in Stryków and ends in Nowy Tomyśl - 50km west from Poznań. Drivers have to pay for using it, which means:
1. almost no one uses it (short and expensive)
2. there are tolls, where you can hitch :)

DO NOT USE THE HIGHWAY WITH THE TOLL AS IT IS BAD FOR HITCH HIKING! Note the 'ban' on hitch hiking by the highway security, the petrol stations that are far from the road, and the relatively low density of vehicles on this sort road.

To Germany, Berlin

  • The most efficient place, but not easy one:

Go to Ogrody (last station of many trams and buses) and take a bus no 61 (not any other with the same terminus!)in direction: Krzyżowniki. Get out at the ninth stop called Ul Wichrowa and walk along the road for about 300 m then you will see petrol station and McD's

Ask drivers there or stay on the road with sign or thumb. Also about 100 m after this place is a bus stop so its more convenient for drivers to stop their car.

attention! this place is not very good. Try to get directly on the A2, from the south of Poznan or at least in Pniewy (30km after Poznan). The A2 will take you to Frankfurt(Oder) and directly on the german highway A12. If you try the option described above, it will take you on small roads to Kostrzyń and from there on small roads to Berlin.
If you want to get directly to the highway from Poznań, take bus 80 from Górczyn to Auchan. 10 min walking from there you have the main entrance to the highway from Poznań. BUT! There is such a low traffic that this place is totally senseless. The best option is to start on petrol station (ul Wichrowa) and follow Route92 to Nowy Tomyśl and then join Route2 which takes you to Frankfurt and Berlin. That is what most drivers will do.

Getting to Warszawa

The best way to get to Warszawa is to get out of the city first. Take the bus S1 and get off at a petrol station at the road E40. There you should ask people who already stopped at the station or the traffic light, for probably no one else will do it.

Go to place called MIŁOSTOWO (last station of trams no. 6 and 8) and walk along the road about 100 m and you will see ORLEN petrol station ... I saw many times people hh on the exit of this station (there is a place to stop the car) Second place is a bit further ... walk along the same road ... after 200-300 m you will see a bridge and Volkswagen factory ... hh straight after the bridge on the bus stop (there is plenty of cars and trucks who are going with the road around Poznan, so many of them are going for a longer distance, so you will avoid local traffic like its possible at first place i have mentioned ...)

Third place is actually my hometown :) ... You can reach this place by first taking a tram MIŁOSTOWO (last station of trams no. 6 and 8) and then taking a bus no S-1 from place called RONDO SRÓDKA (behind Lotos petrol station, direction Swarzedz) ... after about 20 minutes bus will turn left (near LIDL shop) ... go out, turn back to main road and hh some meters after crossroad, junction, traffic lights, whatever ... about 300 m further from this place its a Shell petrol station and huge parking for truckers ... if you are not lucky try there also :) even better, the traffic lights across from the petrol station

Getting to Gdańsk, Bydgoszcz (A1, E261/E75)

Take bus no. 73 from place called Rondo Sródka (towards Janikowo/Ogrodnicza) get out after something like 10-11 stops (about 15-18 minutes) at bus stop called BOGUCIN/BAŁTYCKA. Hitch on this bus stop, its on the road to Gniezno, Bydgoszcz and Gdańsk just after junction with Poznań ring road. You should notice railways nearby and crossed Poznań sign (end of city zone).
