Pippa Bacca was an experienced hitch-hiking artist from Italy. Dressed up as a bride she was on a trip with her friend to promote world-peace and to show that trusting strangers increases peace. The trip they named 'Brides on Tour' and was going from Milan to Palestine. They started Brides on Tour on the 8th of March 2008 and before arriving in Turkey they had gone through Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Bulgaria.

Pippa went missing on the 31th of March of 2008 after she had left Istanbul. Her body was found dead in a forest near the town of Gebze in Turkey, just 30-40 kilometers from Istanbul. Reports mention she was the victim of sexual or gender violence. Pippa's real name was Giuseppina Pasqualino di Marineo. She was 33 years old.

Goals of the trip

The trip was an artistic expression of peace. The two women were hitch-hiking to Jerusalem to promote the message of peace. They were taking photos of drivers offering them rides, uploaded these on their website, and which they wanted to use for an exhibition in Italy. They also aimed at increasing peace by spreading the idea of trusting random locals.
