Hitching Out
South-East towards London or North towards Birmingham
To get out of Oxford towards London or Birmingham the easiest way is to take bus #280 (leaves outside the railway station) to the service station on the M40 motorway, this costs about 2 pounds.
There is also a truck stop on A40, about 1/2 mile from Thornhill Park and Ride, which is located at the eastern edge of the city, 4 miles out of the city centre. A single bus fare to Thornhill is currently £1.60.
South towards Portsmouth, Southampton, Winchester
If you want to head to Portsmouth, Southampton or Winchester, try going to the Botley junction with the A34. From the same junction the A420 goes towards Swindon & Bristol. Take bus #4 (Botley) or any bus going to Seacourt Park and Ride (the junction with A34 is a few hundred metres away from the Park and Ride site)
