Hitchhiking out
Hitching out of Oslo is usually difficult from the city center(except going south). There are several motorway entrances behind the tunnel. The further outside the city you are, the easier it gets.
North towards Trondheim 6 or northwest towards Molde or Ålesund
__TOC__
Around IKEA (Furuset) is an area where most trucks start. There is a "Statoil" petrol station on the E6 direction North which can be reached walking from metro station "Trosterud" (Metro lines 1 or 2)
You This is a superb spot for heading north/northwest: a "Circle K" petrol station on the E6 direction North which can either catch the Metro or be reached with the free Ikea IKEA shuttle bus . This blue bus is leaving from Fred Olsens gate 5 every hour on the "o'clock". It operates from 10.00 until 22.00 on weekdays and from 09.00 until 20.00 on saturdays. You could also jump on the metro line 1 or 2 to get there. Both will be about the stop (Trosterud) at earlier/later hours, sundays and it leaves at higher frequencies, but that would cost a 400one-500 meter walkzone ticket of 35 NOK.
With The Circle K is 10 minutes walk from IKEA. Once you are at IKEA just walk around the metro take line 1 or 2 building to the stop Trosterud'it's right side, and you'll se a pedestrian tunnel taking you under the E6. From Trosterud go outStraight on the other side, look to your right, a pathway following the highway takes you directly to the leftspot. When going north, you can quite easily find a ride here. Anyways, for shorter rides, left again down the hillfirst good petrol station on the highway is called "Skedsmokorset". You might be offered rides to the Oslo airport, over the footbridge and continue down and in case you are behind the gasstationtrying to get further, make sure you jump off at Skedsmokorset.
The IKEA shuttle bus goes once per hour from Dronningsgate near === South towards Göteborg 6 and east towards Stockholm 18 === Note: If you're heading to Sweden on the main station directly E18 you have to IKEAstart on the E6. From Be very careful as there is only one point where the E6 branches to the E18. It's fairly easy to miss, but when you see it ask the driver to turn off even if they are continuing south. There is a roundabout where you can walk get out, and then the driver can get back on the E6. Option 1 - Barcode  With the new iconic addition to the streetOslo high-rise waterfront, turn left Barcode, hitchhiking south directly from the city centre has become much easier, and thus removed the need for the 30 minute metro ride to Mortensrud (southoption 2). From the central station, just pass the high-west) turn left at rises until the second roundabout end, where it turns right (and then cross south). Follow the E6sidewalk on this for about 250 meters, until you get to a traffic light. The Statoil station then On the right side of the road, there is possible for cars to your left and stop (parking forbidden sign does not mean cars can be reached by 't pull over). You only need a ride to the next street on your leftshell station at Mortensrud in order to get going further. Masosial got a ride here after 30 seconds the first time he tried.
=== South towards Göteborg 6 and east towards Stockholm 18 ===Option 1 2 - Mortensrud
Take metro line 3 to "Mortensrud" and get off at the last station, then cross the bridge over metro track and walk for about 300 meters. You will enter petrol station on motorway E6. Either ask drivers there, hitchhike on the busstop on the motorway just 100 meters next to the gasstation, on the onramp itself, or on the busstop before the onramp. Basically just go there and find your favorite way to find a ride going south.
Option 2 3 - From Ljansbakken (closer to the city than the other ones)
Take one of the following buses 83, 500, T9 to the stop Ljansbakken.
This spot is before the road turns into a motorway at a busstop with plenty of space for people to pull over safely, a sign might be useful at this spot.
Option 3 4 - Hellerud
You may want to try Esso petrol station (diesel is cheaper there so lots of people fills up there and other advantage is there is a MC D. right next to it). To get there, take subway to Hellerud, turn right into Smalvollveien and walk till you get to Esso. Some might find useful to know that there seem to be fewer ticket controls on that line.
=== West towards Bergen, or southwest towards Stavanger and Kristiansand ===Option 1 - Where the motorway ended - there is bus 200 that goes from the City, you can catch it to the stop Avtjerna and hitch from the bustop. All motorway has ended and it is just country road all the way to Bergen. The con with this option is that it the bus only goes once an hour (and once every 2 hours on sunday). But if you just miss the bus you can change to option 2 or 3 instead of waiting for the next one. Option 2 - Closer to the city on a onramp - 10 minutes walkingCatch a train to Sandvika, when you get off the train walk in the direction the train was moving for 100 meters, turn right and then left on the bigger road (Elias Smiths Vej), follow the road until a roundabout and turn right, and you will see the entrance to the motorway.
Option 3 - Far out of The road to Bergen diverges from the city -Take southwestern road at Sandvika. If your ride is going the train to "Honefoss"other way, walk up just get off at one of the hill and out to the road, gas stations before Sandvika and keep hitchhiking from there is an information point where it's easy for drivers to pull in- all traffic from Oslo to Bergen goes past this point.
Option 4 1 - Something closer Onramp at Skøyen -This option is fairly close to the citycentre. Take a train or a bus to (Skøyen), and walk southwest towards the highway. There is a big roundabout a a little closer to the hightway, and a 100 meters further down the onramp youll see a bus stop with plenty of space to pull over. This is a favorite spot for many hitchhikers heading west. From here option 2 is also close by, a gas station that is just 600 meters down the highway.
Both of Option 2 - Gas station at Maritim -Take the options bus 31 or 31E to the stop (Maritim) and walk for Kristianstad50 meters to the gas station close by. The station does not have too much traffic, Stavanger can also be used but it is fairly easy to hitch a ride to go the next gas station on the way towards BergenSandvika or Drammen, where there is more traffic heading northwest and southwest.
=== South-West towards Kristianstad, Stavanger === Option 1 3 - Bergen direction only - Where the motorway ended - Stabekk gasstation there is bus 200 that goes from the City, you can catch it to the stop Avtjerna and hitch from the bustop. All motorway has ended and it is just country road all the way to Bergen. The con with this option is that it the bus only goes once an hour (and once every 2 hours on sunday). It is also quite far out from Oslo, and public transport can be pricey. But if you just miss the bus you can change to option 1 or 2.
Catch the train to StabekkOption 4 - Bergen direction only - Onramp at Sandvika and as Catch a train to Sandvika, when you come out of get off the of train walk in the direction the train was moving for 100 meters, turn right and cross then left on the bridge over the railwaybigger road (Elias Smiths Vej), following follow the road Kveldsroveienuntil a roundabout and turn right, by turning right after the bridge and walking in the direction you came with from Oslo. Take will see the second road entrance to the left (still called Kveldsroveien and walk on that until it grows smaller and smaller before eventually becoming highway. There you can stand with a footpath leading sign hitchhiking to the motorway gasstation Hønefoss, where you can hitch towards Drammen and onwards. Itthere's roughly a 10 minute walk from the gas station.
Option 2 - Same as option 4 - Petrol Station near the city
There is a Petrol Station on the Drammensvein heading west (next to the Mercedes and BMW buildings). Many people leaving Oslo in the morning to go to Both of the surrounding suburbs options for work stop there for petrol. You can reach it by walking from the city center (around 4 km on a footpath along the Drammensvein) or by Bus (TE 1Kristiansand,4,8, 10 or 14 till Martim). from here you Stavanger can easily ask drivers if they are going also be used to one of the spots mentioned above. Remember that most cars will not be going very far.go towards Bergen
