Oslo is the capital of Norway.
Hitchhiking out
Hitching out of Oslo is usually difficult from the city center (except going south). There are several motorway entrances behind the tunnel. The further outside the city you are, the easier it gets.
Hitching out of Oslo is difficult from the city center. There are several motorway entrances behind the tunnel. The further outside the city you are, the easier it gets. === North towards Trondheim 6 or northwest towards Molde or Ålesund ===__TOC__
=== North towards This is a superb spot for heading north/northwest: a "Circle K" petrol station on the TrondheimE6 6 ===direction North which can be reached with the free IKEA shuttle bus. This blue bus is leaving from Fred Olsens gate 5 every hour on the "o'clock". It operates from 10.00 until 22.00 on weekdays and from 09.00 until 20.00 on saturdays. You could also jump on the metro line 1 or 2 to the stop (Trosterud) at earlier/later hours, sundays and it leaves at higher frequencies, but that would cost a one-zone ticket of 35 NOK.
The trip Circle K is 10 minutes walk from IKEA. Once you are at IKEA just walk around the building to Trondheim it's right side, and you'll se a pedestrian tunnel taking you under the E6. Straight on the other side, look to your right, a pathway following the highway takes one dayyou directly to the spot. When going north, you can quite easily find a ride here. Anyways, for shorter rides, the first good petrol station on the highway is called "Skedsmokorset". You might be offered rides to the Oslo airport, in case you are trying to get further, make sure you jump off at Skedsmokorset.
Around IKEA (Furuset) is an area where most trucks start. There is a "Statoil" petrol station on the === South towards Göteborg 6 and east towards E6Stockholm direction North which can be reached walking from metro station "Trosterud", East of 18 === Note: If you're heading to Sweden on the E18 you have to start on the centre (lines 1 or 2, direction Ellingsrudåsen)E6. The metro in Oslo Be very careful as there is called only one point where the T. From the stop Trosterud you go out, E6 branches to the left, left again down the hill, over the footbridge and continue down and you are behind the stationE18.You can also get there for freeIt's fairly easy to miss, taking but when you see it ask the IKEA bus going once per hour from Dronningsgate near the main station directly driver to IKEAturn off even if they are continuing south. From there There is a roundabout where you can walk back to the streetget out, turn left (south-west) turn left at the second roundabout and then cross the E6. The Statoil station then is to your left and driver can be reached by get back on the next street on your leftE6Option 1 - Barcode
:abstorz was able With the new iconic addition to hitch a the Oslo high-rise waterfront, Barcode, hitchhiking south directly from the city centre has become much easier, and thus removed the need for the 30 minute metro ride onto to Mortensrud (option 2). From the central station, just pass the high-rises until the motorway behind end, where it turns right (and south). Follow the tunnel in sidewalk on this for about 250 meters, until you get to a traffic light. On the area right side of Etterstadthe road, but it there is possible for cars to stop (parking forbidden sign does not mean cars can't be bad pull over). You only need a ride to the shell station at Mortensrud in order to get even going further out of the city. Once on Masosial got a ride here after 30 seconds the motorway everything went finefirst time he tried.
=== South towards Göteborg 6 and east towards Stockholm 18 ===Option 2 - Mortensrud
If you want to go south-east on the E6 take Take metro line 3 to "Mortensrud" and get off at the last station, then cross the bridge over metro track and walk for about 300 meters. You will enter petrol station on motorway E6. Ask Either ask drivers there. Very good spot! Also , hitchhike on the busstop on the motorway just 100 meters next to the gasstation, on the onramp itself, or on the busstop before the trash is worth checking for a pre-hitch diveonramp. Nikkou found tons of bagels Basically just go there in Jul 2016and find your favorite way to find a ride going south.
The best place to hitch hike is the bus station down the road described beneath. Option 3 - From the petrol station there is a road Ljansbakken (closer to the right that leads to a small path on city than the right side where the bus station is. Itother ones) s visible from the petrol station.
Peregrine had luck finding a ride going all Take one of the way following buses 83, 500, T9 to the Swedish border within 20 minutes from the motorway on-ramp next to the petrol station near Mortensrudstop Ljansbakken. However, the women driving the vehicle cautioned that they have seen many people standing there trying to get rides unsuccessfully and that it This spot is quite dangerous with such a short on ramp so close to the 80 km/h interstate - that Peregrine should notify the source of their information that there is a much safer bus stop to hitch from just down before the road. Looking more carefully you will find that going south on E6 away from this petrol station, maybe 300 meters, there is in fact turns into a bus stop that may be motorway at a better idea...however busstop with the speed plenty of the trafficspace for people to pull over safely, maybe only during rush hour..a sign might be useful at this spot.
You can also take the regional train going "Ski" and get off at "Nordstrand" station, one stop after OsloOption 4 -S. Once at Nordstrand, turn left and go down the little hill. The large road with a lot of traffic is the E18. You can walk about 5-10 minutes in the direction of Oslo (turning right) to the Ulvøya Island crossroad. There is a bus stop right after a traffic light and you can get picked up quite easily. Have a sign to make sure you get on to the right road.Hellerud
Alternatively you You may want to try Esso petrol station (diesel is cheaper there so lots of people fills up there and other advantage is there is a MC D. right next to it). To get there, take subway to Hellerud, turn right into Smalvollveien and walk till you get to Esso. Some might find useful to know that there seem to be fewer ticket controls on that line.
West towards Bergen, or southwest towards Stavanger and Kristiansand
Option 1 - Where the motorway ended - there is bus 200 that goes from the City, you can catch it The road to the stop Avtjerna and hitch Bergen diverges from the bustopsouthwestern road at Sandvika. All motorway has ended and it If your ride is just country road all going the other way to Bergen. The con with this option is that it the bus only goes once an hour (and once every 2 hours on sunday). But if you , just miss the bus you can change to option 2 or 3 instead get off at one of waiting for the next onegas stations before Sandvika and keep hitchhiking from there.
Option 2 1 - Closer to the city on a onramp Onramp at Skøyen - 10 minutes walkingCatch This option is fairly close to the city centre. Take a train or a bus to Sandvika, when you get off the train walk in the direction the train was moving for 100 meters, turn right and then left on the bigger road (Elias Smiths VejSkøyen), follow and walk southwest towards the road until highway. There is a big roundabout and turn righta a little closer to the hightway, and a 100 meters further down the onramp you will 'll see the entrance a bus stop with plenty of space to pull over. This is a favorite spot for many hitchhikers heading west. From here option 2 is also close by, a gas station that is just 600 meters down the motorwayhighway.
Option 2 - Gas station at Maritim -
Take the bus 31 or 31E to the stop (Maritim) and walk for 50 meters to the gas station close by. The station does not have too much traffic, but it is fairly easy to hitch a ride to the next gas station on the way towards Sandvika or Drammen, where there is more traffic heading northwest and southwest.
Option 3 - Far out of Bergen direction only - Where the city motorway ended -Take there is bus 200 that goes from the train City, you can catch it to "Honefoss", walk up the hill stop Avtjerna and hitch from the bustop. All motorway has ended and out it is just country road all the way to Bergen. The con with this option is that it the road, bus only goes once an hour (and there once every 2 hours on sunday). It is an information point where it's easy for drivers to pull in- all traffic also quite far out from Oslo , and public transport can be pricey. But if you just miss the bus you can change to Bergen goes past this pointoption 1 or 2.
Option 4 - Bergen direction only - Onramp at Sandvika
Catch a train to Sandvika, when you get off the train walk in the direction the train was moving for 100 meters, turn right and then left on the bigger road (Elias Smiths Vej), follow the road until a roundabout and turn right, and you will see the entrance to the highway. There you can stand with a sign hitchhiking to Hønefoss, where there's a gas station.
Option 4 - Petrol station near the city.
There is a Petrol Station on the Drammensvein heading west (next to the Mercedes and BMW buildings). Many people leaving Oslo in the morning to go to Both of the surrounding suburbs options for work stop there for petrol. You can reach it by walking from the city center (around 4 km on a footpath along the Drammensvein) or by Bus (TE 1Kristiansand,4,8, 10 or 14 till Martim). from here you Stavanger can easily ask drivers if they are going also be used to one of the spots mentioned above. Remember that most cars will not be going very far.go towards Bergen
Hitching In
From Oslo (Rygge) Airport
Oslo (Rygge) is an airport located about 75 km South of Oslo, on the E6 direction Göteborg. To reach Oslo via HH, you simple need a sign for Oslo and you can either hitch from the airport or walk about 1.5 km to (North direction, along the motorway) the Rygge on-ramp where local traffic passes at the roundabout. The first petrol station is a few kilometres North, around Moss. From there it's rather easy to get a direct ride to Oslo.
From Oslo (Gardermoen) Airport
Oslo (Gardermoen) (OSL) Airport is located around 50 km North of Oslo, near E6 towards Lillehammer.
To reach Oslo, simply go to the multi-storey car park which is adjacent to the terminal and then follow arrows to the exit. Then head to the gates where drivers pay for the parking, it's at the exit from the car park area. Stand right behind these gates. Payment takes a couple of whiles and drivers should have the time to notice you, there's also a plenty of place for them to stop to pick you up.
== Public Transportation Resources ==nomadwikiwikivoyagewikipedia-link
It's very easy and relaxed to get into the subway for free. At least one hitchhiker rode for more than a week on bus, tram and subway without ever buying a ticket. If you get busted, just choose to pay later, give a false address and you will never hear from them again.

The ticket is 30 kr. Note that you can buy it on the train (for 50 kr if you buy it from a person instead of the machine) and they might not check, but it's almost impossible to dodge on regional trains.

Other Useful Info
Free luggage storage: There are free lockers in the main Oslo library if you want to store luggage for free (you need a ten kroner coin, which you'll get back after).

Also in USE IT on Møllergata 3, in the very centre, you can find free luggage storage, free wi-fi, free coffea and frew condoms.

CAMPING: To the east of Oslo there is an extremely large and beautiful nature-reserve called Østmarka. The park has extensive hiking trails, numerous lakes with fishing and swimming, and a minimal amount of development. When I was there at the height of summer, it was never crowded if not almost completely deserted. Camping in the park is safe, free and legal and you could spend days exploring it. Best of all it's accessible from the T-bane and, thus, connected to downtown Oslo. Near the Trosterud station there's an entrance to the Lutvann Lake recreation area within the park. When you leave the station, follow the paved pedestrian road to the left just a few meters. There will be another paved road/bike path going up the hill to your right. Follow this all the way up. You will reach a cluster of apartment buildings. Keep following the asphalt path. It will end in a small parking lot and a raised basketball court I think. At this point turn right and follow the car-road. Turn left just past the basketball court and follow this road as it veers up and to the right, I think it's called Lutvannsveien. You will pass a military base and the entrance to the park is another 50 meters or so past that. The lake itself is another 5-10 minute walk inside the park, just follow the big gravel path. All told it's about a 20-30 minute hike from the station. For hitching this spot is ideal because it's also very close to the E6 going north. There's directions to hitching spots from Trosterud at the top of this page. If you are hungry the T-bane stop before Trosterud which is Haugerud has a remi supermarket opposite it which is nice for dumpster diving.

Another good spot for wild camping is Ekeberg park, very close to the centre (20 min walking otherwise tramway 18 and 19 very easily blackridable) with an amazing view over the town and safe, deserted, free and legal as well (just some runners and humans with their canine owners in the morning). There is also a paying camping inside it where you can sneak inside to have a free shower. E6 and E18 are at a walking distance.
The squat called "Blå" next to the culture house "housemania" in the city centre has a guest room with 6 places. It's worth asking for sure even if often it's full and it is not liked nor allowed to sleep on the floor.
