Sleeping: tourist, and sex (wich is basically the same) area is malate, get to remedio circle ( close to MRT/LRT stop pedro gil), there you have lots of hostels. a very cheap quiet and clean one is the following: at remedios circle ask for malate pension (well known, very nice but not so cheap (around 8$)). right at the pension there is a small back street - right before the pension if you come from remedio c). take this street and 30m on the right side there are two small nice pensions for 5$.

heading north/south: get to the NLEX /SLEX on ramps and if you want a jeepney (minibus) to get a bit out of the city.

there is a marina at the southern end of the baywalk, but they didnt let me enter. the port is north of the baywalk....if you get a ride there let me know.
