Lviv is a city in the Ukraine, somewhat close to Poland.

West towards Poland

Not exactly hitching, but you can get a marshrutka from the train station going to the Polish border, the Shegyni-Medyka crossing, for 9.50 UAH/~$2 (June 2007). Look or ask for one that says Lviv - Shegyni.
