Most people speak the local language, Luxembourgois, but also French, German and English fluently.

Luxembourg is a great country for long distance hitchhiking, located as it is very centrally in Europe. A lot of drivers stop here for the low duties on fuel, alcohol, and chocolate. Most motorways leaving Luxembourg have a large service area, and these are the best places to get ongoing lifts. However much of the traffic there is people who come just a few kilometers over the border just to get cheaper fuel. So for longer distances it may be wise to have a sign or to preselect the drivers you ask by the numberplates of their car for example to have a less frustrating experience.

Local hitchhiking on the countryside of Luxembourg is somewhat less straightforward and hitchhiking is not so common there.
