You can also walk across the bridge beside Jury's hotel and about two minutes further on until you get to the hard shoulder. This is only a short walk out of the city centre. I have never waited more than ten or fifteen minutes there. The road that crosses the bridge is called Condell Road and is the N18.

Hitching Out

South towards Cork, etc

Option 1

Go to the Roxboro roundabout on the South side of the city. This can be reached by the number 303 bus from Limerick City Centre (on William Street) for around 1.50 Euro. Get off the bus near the motorway exit. You walk up here for 10 minutes until you reach a roundabout. Here, you go straight down, following the signs for Cork, and stand on the side of the motorway behind some yellow lines. This is just after the bridge. We waited for 5 minutes with a sign at this spot and got a lift to Cork city.

Option 2

Go to the Raheen roundabout on the South side of the city. This can be reached by the number 304/304 A bus from Limerick City Centre (Outside the Brown Thomas department Store) for around 1.50 Euro. From the last stop, you walk up the motorway for 5 minutes until you reach a second roundabout. Here, you turn left and stand on the side of the motorway behind some yellow lines. We waited for 5 minutes with a sign at this spot and got a lift to Cork city.

East towards Dublin, etc

Go to the Annacotty/Dublin Road roundabout on the East side of the city. This can be reached by the number 308 bus from Limerick City Centre (Outside the Peter Mark hairdressers on William Street) for around 1.50 Euro. From the last stop, you walk up the motorway for 20 minutes until you reach a roundabout after the Finnegan's bar (this is located on the right side of the road). Here, you turn left and stand on the side of the motorway behind some yellow lines. We waited for 5 minutes with a sign at this spot and got a lift to Dublin city.

North towards Galway, etc

Get the 302 bus to Caherdavin. Turn right and walk down the road to the Fern Dale roundabout. There is space on the cycle lane near the Ferndale round about for cars. It is also good to go the petrol station nearby and ask people there for a lift.

You can also walk across the bridge beside Jury's hotel and about two minutes further on until you get to the hard shoulder. This is only a short walk out of the city centre. I have never waited more than ten or fifteen minutes there. The road that crosses the bridge is called Condell Road and is the N18.

The hitch hiking spot is on the main road after Post Depot on the Dock road. This is not far from Limerick city bus and rail station.
