Korday is a town in Kazakhstan on the border with Kyrgyzstan.

Hitching out

South to Bishkek

One can cross the border into Kyrgyzstan on foot. A few meters after the shared taxis waiting to take paying passengers, you can raise your thumb. You may have to wave several drivers on before finding one who will take you for free.

Northwest to Almaty

Ask locals which is the road to Almaty (Russian: Almatinskoe shosse) and go along this to the outskirts of the village, some 6 kilometers up from the Kazakh-Kyrgyz border. There is a police roadblock, and a couple of hundred meters after the roadblock one can stop a car.

This area is poorly lit, and stopping a car at night is difficult. A couple of hundred meters past the roadblock on the left side of the road is a large field where one can pitch a tent to spend the night. Though local shepherds may drive their animals through the field and across the road in the early morning, your presence will be tolerated.
