Jerusalem is a the largest city in Israel and the capital of the Middle East, state since its establishment in 1948. Jerusalem's status is under dispute between Israel and the Palestinians, both claiming it . The Palestinians have claims to the city including a claim to be their capital city. == Hitching in ==Jerusalem is quite different from Tel Aviv, there is a lot of religious communities in the city. In religious neighborhoods, it can be perceived as offensive not to dress modestly, and can attract unwelcomed attention. However, in the city center and old city (not inside the religious sites themselves, obviously) there is no such problem. You can hitch hike in the nighbourhods, just find deserted stations and try. most of the city are walkable and the buses are cheap. Make plastic card "Rav Kav', otherwise you can't pay. It's free and possible to make in the CBS and another spots

[Moriya:] Jerusalem has at least 6-7 roads to get out,to different directions. It's changes often by the massive constractions but in general, choose your next destination and ask local where the best spot to hitch out. the following is list of spots based on the direction:
To the Dead Sea and to Amman (Jordan)
From the city center you have two options:

# You can either take service taxi ("Sheirut") Number 36, from Damascus gate of the old city, in the direction of Abu Dis, a ride of 5 NIS only. Go down in Maale Adumin junction and continue hitchhiking west. If you take this ride you get directly to road #1, from which you need to continue hitchhiking westwards towards the Dead Sea and Jordan.

# Or take buses 25, 4 or 4A from West Jerusalem to get to Har Ha'tsofim Junction, (French Hill). The place is usually crowded with hitchhikers, and drivers stop often. Most likely they will go only half ways, in which case you should ask to go down in the entry junction to their settlement, and continue hitchhiking from the bus station.

When reaching the Beit-HaArava junction, next to the border with Jordan, the road turn south and from there you can ask to get off in any location at the shore of the Dead Sea.
If your destination is == MAIN Junction to get out: =="Hayeziaa Me'A'ir"- The enternace of the city, called as well Ginot Sacharov. ([[Jordan]https://goo.gl/maps/i8hDtLdz8tu Google street view] ) 1 road, the huge Trempiyada that close to the CBS. it's the road to Tel Aviv, Haifa and all Gush Dan, and assuming the way to the states highways- 2, 6.. If you don't have an Israeli passportcome from city center, you can continue walk through tram lines to Jordan through the Allenby Bridge border terminalugly bridge, and down the bridge you continue straight. From Road 1, you can hitchhike will see 2 crossroads and on your right will be to Jericho (search for the Palestinian green license plate) petrols stations- yellow one and from there take a one call Sonol. Keep staright. you will see huge place to stand, bus or hitchhike out statins and often tons of the western exit of the citypeople that hitch hike too. find your spot and stand. Your Most likely you will see other option is hitchhikers standing there too. If you get bored or want to hitchhike to the Beit-HaArava junctionburn some time, and from just behind you there stand and hitchhike northwardsis an old Arab village (Lifta), which was deserted in 1948. Go down the next turn right is stairs and find your way to the Allenby border crossinglocal spring. You might be able Although basicly from this spot people go to walk it from all the main roadcountry, although bewarenot many people stop, and you may stuck inside all the Israeli army didn't allow guaka traffic jams. So if you want easyer, beautyer and often shorter way to walk from the border to the roadsouth or north, use another way.
=== To Eilat, Aqaba (Jordan), Taba (Egypt) ===Follow Hitch hike to Tel Aviv on road 443: You can stand at French Hill just in the other side of the tram of Givat Hamivtar. This is not the direction to go best spot to hitch towards Tel Aviv - use it only if you hitched here from the Dead Sea, but northern Israel or from the West bank, and you wish to continue south to Tel Aviv. On the other side of the big intersection there is a smaller bus stop. Cars that pass here might be going into Jerusalem, or towards Tel Aviv through highway 1 or highway 443, so a sign here can be a big help. There are no good places to stop on Highway 90 until its endhighway 1 except the Hemed station and Latrun intersection. It’s better to wait for a direct ride. From there If you can continue east towards Jordanget a ride part of the way on highway 443, to Modiin for example, that is much better, or south towards Egyptbecause there are bus stops in almost every intersection on that road.

=== To Tel Aviv ===Take a bus Jerusalem locate, geographicly in the excat center of Israel, which explaines why to hitch hike to nirth and south is the same spot. for years, the best way was through the Trempiyada in French hill, but roads changed and people barely stop there nowdays .(2018) Currently spot is the main bus station to Maa'le Adumim that close to the Hebrew Uni. From city center- take the tram to Ammunition Hill, or you hitchhike from in Jerusalemfront the Damascus gate (sounds strange, but worked numerous times: 10 mins, 5 mins). Go on walking further on Jaffa Get down, cross the road, till you get to the main junction where right, you can see the "Begin" highwayhuge white stutue on your left. go Keep it on walking straight your left. and pass this junctionstart walk, and on your right (after the petrol station) You will walk like 15 minutes. Than you will see station that have many buses that stop. Check if it's written that there is a bus station, that go to Kfar Adumim. if the answer iis yes- than you are in the best spot right staation. Take a lift to hitchhikeKfar Adumim (or further) you will pass Maale Adumim, and Mishor Adumim. Most likely when you get down, you will see other hitchhikers standing there toothat you are in road 1#. If all the lifts good for you , try to get bored or want to burn some timeBet Haarava junction, where road 1 meets highway 90, just behind which can take you there is north towards Beit She'an ancient Palestinian village , Tiberias and generally northern Israel (Liftaserving also Allenby border crossing and Sheikh Hussein border crossing to Amman)and south towards the Dead Sea and Eilat. So if you need to get to the Dead Sea and your ride goes to northern Israel (Beit She'an, which was deserted in 1948Tiberias etc. Go down ) or vice versa, get off at the stairs last junction before Beit HaArava - at Almog junction. Almog junction functions as a refreshment stop, so kiosks, mini-market and find your (free) toilets are available here, so that's the best way to the local springhitch another ride. Beware! this is a desert area, so being near a refreshment stop helps.
In case it's too crowded you might be better off going a bit back up == To the street to the petrol stations west bank- north area: Binyamin and hitch there. AlsoSamaria sttelments, Israeli hitchhikers seem to have an aversion against signs, so if you're not local using a sign could work out in your advantage.Nablus and cet: ==
There is also a Check the section of petrol stationwest bank on for more detalis, but anyways, from Jerusalem: French Hill used to be the Jerusalem-Tel Aviv highway at Shaar Hagai best spots, but it's changed (שער הגיא‎2018) [http://maps.googleNowdays the Trempiyada is in Hizma Junction.com/maps?q=gas+take the tram to Sayert Duchifat (almost last station&hl=en&cd=10&ei=6SqMS7XXIYivOJe28LcG&sig2=rVVbYMtdQ5gwWRR4lSrEAA&sll=31), get down and take the crossroad to your right.799391there is a station,35not so good spot but for lazy people you can hitch hike there insted of walk 20 minutes down in the road to Hizma junction.108185&sspn=0every lift is good to Hizma Junction, and sometime you will get lift straight to your destination.250939Hizma Junction is a soldiers checkpoint,0you will see many people standing there.376282&ie=UTF8&view=map&cid=10709258174763436664&ved=0CBIQpQY&hq=gas+station&hnear=&ll=31Sign can help and watch the que.88572The people that stop will be 90% of the time religius setllers, so if you want to go to Rammalla cheeck where excatly you need to get down to coninue,35and be aware that people will not like the idea you go there, and can't give you ride straight to there, due the politics issues.024414&spn=0You can hitch from the same place towards Ramallah (and from there you can reach Nablus and other Palestinian cities).501407Be advised that if you’re standing in this stop with a sign that says “Ramallah” on it, it's quite possible people are going to look at you like you’re crazy,0.752563&z=10&iwloc=A Google map link] This and might be useful if a ride is try to convince you not going all the way to go there, that it’s dangerous, etc. It's almost secret but you can even hitch hike to Netania, Tel Aviv , Haifa from this stop if you heading to Samaria (through 60 road, 5, 6) but it longer and you will need many lifts. Rides from here are available to the Ramallah area (Ramallah, Ofra, etc.) As well as there further in, towards Nablus, via "Tapuach Junction" (Ariel, Salfit, Buddya etc.)The buses to this area are very few spots really cheap (sometime 3 shekels!) so check where you need exactly to stop on the highway between the two citiesgo and your time- maybe bus is better..
=== To Tiberias and the Golan Heights ===Your first goal is the Beit HaArava Junction, which connects Highway 1 going west from Jerusalembank- south- Gush Ezyon, to Highway 90Hebron, which goes north to the Kinneret. Beer Sheva ==
From Same rules about the city center you have two options:# You can either take service taxi ("Sherut") Number 36, from Damascus gate of the old city, in the direction of Abu Diswest bank, a ride of 5 NIS only. Go down in Maale Adumin junction and continue hitchhiking west. If you take this ride you get directly to road #1, from which many rides will take you straight to Beit HaArava Junction.# Or take buses 25, 4 or 4A from West Jerusalem to get to Har Ha'tsofim Junction, (French Hill). The place is usually crowded with hitchhikers, and drivers stop often. Most likely they will go only half ways, in which case you should ask to go down in the entry junction to their settlement, and continue hitchhiking from the bus stationsection.
From Take bus to Gilo (71, 31, 30..) get down in Afarsemon street. cross to the Beit HaArava Junctionleft, head north on Road 90 until you reach the Tsemach Junciton at the bottom of the Kinneret. From therewill see huge road, You can either hitchhike to Tiberias by going westwards on Road 90, or use the left there is Trempiyada (hitching spot) up to the Golan. People either drive up If you need to Road 92 or Road 98 from there. Road 98 goes right up Go to the GolanHebron, and Road 92 runs along the west coast of the Kinneret from ask people where you can pick up Roads 789 or 87 exactly to the Golanstand. Highway 789 connects to Road 98 from If you not sure where you can chose to either continue north or head south. Road 87 also connects to 98get down ask the driver, but a bit later, and it also turns west over where is the Kinneret or east through the center of the Golan until it picks up 98 at its endGush Ezyon's Trempiyada.
=== To Ramallah, Samaria Tekoa (Palestinian Territory, West BankGush Ezyon) ===Take a city : take the bus to Har Homa (25Homat Shmuel) 74, 475. Get down in Shmuel Meir-Kvish 378. It's the same way to Bet Lechem, but Israelies car not aloud to go there, and arabs not aloud to do the way around.A bus ride to Bethlehem only costs 8 NIS, consider using the bus. Bus #231 or 4a) #234 can be taken from the bus terminal in front of Damscus gate of the Old City of Jerusalem. You can hitch a ride to the Har Ha'tzofim Gush Etzion Junction and stand continue from there. Rides from here are available to most of the Ramallah area (Ramallah, Ofra, etc.) As well as further villages in, towards Nablus, via "Tapuach Junction" (Ariel, Salfit, Buddya etcGush Etzion or on to Hebron and Kiryat Arba.)
However, due to the lack of rides to this area, it is probably best to take a service taxi (very cheap) to this area from Damascus gate in Jerusalem.
=== To BethlehemThough, Judea (Palestinian Territory, West Bank) ===Take the #31 bus to Giloh (you'll have to ask people how to get to the trempiada). From there you can hitch rides to Bethlehem andGush Etzion areas,(Efrat, Bethlehem, Alon Shvut), etc, as well as further south, to the Hebron area of Hebron, or Kiryat Arba, Tarqumia, Yatta, etc. To get to the latter area, however, it there is better to hitch a ridge to Gush Etzion Junction, and try from therebus #381 which costs just 8.1 NIS.

=== Free hospitality ===In projects such as can consider to walk instead of HH.bewelcomeJerusalem to Bethlem is just 8 km.org BeWelcome I've done it in less than 2 hours walking slow and my time. The view is not the best but if you arrive walking you will able to see the big wall which it separetes Israel to the West Bank.couchsurfingYou have to take the entrance for tourists, very fast, few people pass there.com CouchSurfing The palestinian pass by another gate. Above all you will see the wall and read the different stories of the palestinian during the occupation and you can find will see many Jerusalemic members who grafitti on the wall, some of them were made by Bansky. Bansky's graffitti are spread around Jerusalem but if you go to the center the (annoyng) taxies will host take you for to a night or two in their homes..tour to see Bansky's graffiti.
==Nomadwiki & Trashwiki = Hostels and cheap accommodation ===As a rule of thumb, the Western part of the city is much (much!) more expensive than the Eastern part, especially when it comes to hostels. In the old city and around Damascus gate you can find a dorm bed for as little as 20 NIS (4 Euro) for a night. Check Wikitravel for more details.trash:Jerusalem
