== Hitchhiking out ==
From the city center of Gera at 'Heinrichtraße' take tram number 3 (indicating: 'Bieblach Ost') until the stop 'Berufsakademie'. Walk north over 'Tinzer Straße' and 'Siemensstraße' until you have reached Autobahn A4/E40. You will find an Aral petrol station as well as a Mc. Donald's restaurant. Here or at the on-ramp entrance of the Autobahn, you have the opportunity to hitchhike eastward (towards Chemnitz and Dresden) or westward (towards 'Hermsdorfer Kreuz', Jena, Erfurt and Eisenach). Gera is a very well signed Autobahn interchange, it . You will help you surely find your wayvery quick. From the city center it should not take longer than 15 minutes until you have reached this the above mentioned spot. -
To travel to Berlin, Dessau or Leipzig - build a cardboard sign indicating 'A4' or 'Kreuz Hermsdorf' and stand at the northern (westward) Autobahn entrance. Get off the car two interchanges later at 'Hermsdorf' and walk along the Autobahn and through a forest to the relais (rest area) [http://www.rast.de/standorte/suche/detail.html?ID=164 Rastanlage Hermsdorf] on A9/E51 (Munich/Berlin). Alternatively, the driver might directly bring you there. You can conveniently change sides (north/south) through a foottunnel next to the motel and restaurant on the western side of the relais.
