Hitchhiking in Ethiopia is a pretty hard. The country is extremely poor and hardly anyone has cars, hitching is not a known concept and usually only taxis will stop to pick you up. In rural areas you might hitch with NGO's or private's cars but payment will be expected.

The border with Djibouti is at some point only accessible by hitching with truckers, where a payment of about 100Birr might be expected. Note that the border with Eritrea is closed!

There are borders with Eritrea, Djibouti, Somalia, Kenya and Sudan.
