A very easy and safe way to get out north. Take the Public Bus 287 (running from Main Train Station, for instance) to "Steudach, St.Michael" (last to the terminal station). From there you can walk over some service road crossing the fields to the Autobahn Service Station Herzogenaurach. It's a very quick walk from the bus station, maybe 700 metres straight ahead (you can see the autobahn already from the bus). Since all the cars that stop at the service station drive north straightly, you should be able to get a lift within minutes.

Hitchhiking out

North in direction of Würzburg, Aschaffenburg and Frankfurt

A very easy and safe way to get out north. Take the Public Bus 287 (running from Main Train Station, for instance) to "Steudach, St.Michael" (last to the terminal station). From there you can walk over some service road crossing the fields to the Autobahn Service Station Herzogenaurach. It's a very quick walk from the bus station, maybe 700 metres straight ahead (you can see the autobahn already from the bus).
