The Dead sea, the most salty body of water on the planet Earth and the lowest point on the planet, is shared between Israel and Jordan.

Hitching in

From Jerusalem

From the city center or the bus station, take buses 25, 4 or 4A to get to the "French Hill junction". This junction is the spot to hitchike in the direction of Jericho and the Dead sea. The place is usually crowded with hitchikers, and drivers stop often. Most likely they will go only halfways, in which case you should ask to go down in the entry junction to their settlment, and continue hitchiking from the bus station. When reaching the Beit-HaArava junction, the road turn south and from there you can ask to get off in any location at the shore of the dead sea.

Hitching Out

To Jerusalem

Get to your nearest bus stop/hitchiking spot (On the main road 90#), and follow the same instruction as the "Hitching in" paragraph.

To Eilat, Jordan

Road 90#, the main Dead Sea road, goes all the way south to Eilat. You can easily hitchike to Eilat from every bus station/Hitchiking spot on the way south, so hop in even if the driver goes only a few kilometers. It can be a bit frustrating (not so many veichles pass) but drivers seem to be nicer in the desert. If you wish to enter Jordan, ask to be dropped off at the border crossing juntion, 10km north of Eilat.
