When hitchhiking on regional roads make sure you are at a spot that is perfectly visible to the drivers - in summertime there are many over-speeding motorcycle drivers.
Thumb up is the common way to hitchhike in Czech Republic. Thumb pointing down or waving the hand as to slow down is especially in the border areas used by the prostitutes along the road to attract their potential customers.
