In France most service stations have fences around them. Usually there are service roads for employees, which are often closed with a gate that you will find to be open. The gate for pedestrians is often situated close to the actual petrol station. Leaving a service station to go to the other side using service roads is often possible, keeping in mind the right direction as listed below. There are also quite a few service stations with a direct way to cross, using a pedestrian bridge or less often a bridge restaurant.
The following Aires de service in France do allow you to go on foot from one side to the other. This overview is complete for the A1 up to A40A72.
