Hitchhiking along I-95 is not difficult as Connecticut maintains a very nice system of rest stops and service plazas across the state. Walk onto one and put your thumb out and you shouldn't have to wait long for a ride. In addition, several New York-Boston bus lines make stops at the Fairfield service plaza (exit 21), and it is possible to talk your way on for free or a reduced price if you're a good negotiator.
