Brno is the second largest city in the Czech Republic.

Hitchhiking out

Northwest towards Jihlava, Praha 1E 50E 65

Find trolley-bus 25, 26 or 29 and get off at stop "Čtvrtě". From the bridge you can see big road to Prague. Go down and after 200 m there is smaller petrol station. Next to it is great place to hitchhike just a few metres from pump machines where you can ask people. Unfortunately on this lane often parks some truck or two so you can only hitchhike cars leaving station or ask.

This spot is quickly and easily accessible from various parts of Brno and hitchhiking quite good.

Kundrt got lifts from this place three times in ~5 minutes, once in 25 minutes and once stuck there with two other hitchhikers and decided to move to another spot.

Second option

15 minutes walk from stop "Osová" - trams 6, 8 or trolley-buses 25, 29 (terminus). From tram stop go up to the bridge. From trolley-buses loop go over the bridge. There is bus stop, you can take bus 69 to stop "Čermákova" or continue this wide road 400 m to the end - crossroad with new houses behind. You can already see the motorway and petrol station. But turn right. After 350 m you are at the bus stop "Čermákova". Turn left (street Čermákova) and at the end you can see small tunnel under motorway. Just before tunnel on the left you can go up and after 300 m you are at OMV petrol station. In winter could be hard to get there.

This station is bigger than the one at first option, little bit harder to access, good hitchability.

Kundrt got lifts from this place two times in around 15 minutes.

Third option

Small petrol station OMV on the motorway near Bosonohy - almost without cars. To Bosonohy, bus stop "Hoštická" you can get by bus 69 (from Masaryk's University campus, or trams 6, 8 stop "Dunajská"). Then go little bit back to the main road and right. After 1,5 km you will see that station. Or from "Dunajská" you can go by bus 401 or 402 (you have to pay the driver; once an hour) to request stop "Tranzitní plynovod". Just few metres back and right is that petrol station.

Nonsense to go here from Brno city. It was pure luck to get lift in 5 minutes. Getting there takes more time than average waiting time in 1st or 2nd spot.

Fourth option

Bigger petrol station Shell on the motorway near Popůvky. 3 km after Third option. Take bus 401 or 402 (↑↑) to stop "Popůvky - Vintrovna". Continue on the main road 850 m and there is the spot. You can also walk & hitchhike to this place from Bosnohy.

There is some traffic, but again it's a bit pointless to go here from Brno.

South towards Bratislava, Budapest 2E 65

Take bus number 67, or the free "Avion bus" (it goes from 9am till 10pm every 20/30 minute) that starts on the bus stop "Uzka", and get off at the commercial zone “Avion”. There is a petrol station (where you can shower and even sleep) along the motorway which is going to Slovakia. It's a big commercial zone with big shops. One of them has free internet access, it's the electrical shop before Ikea. This isn't the great spot, but there just isn't any better, so don't expect any miracles. Ondercan would say that the average waiting time is close to 2h and there's always a lot of local traffic near this mall. The petrol station is on the parallel road to the highway that goes directly to Bratislava so there aren't actually many cars going to Bratislava but mostly local people stopping by after shopping. Also it's almost impossible to hitchhike from the exit of Avion too, Ondercan stood there more than 2h with a sign with no success. In total Ondercan waited there more than 5h, when deciding to go back and take the train. While hopping the train it's important to remember that tickets are controlled twice, both after getting in the train and after entering Slovakia.

South towards Vienna R 52E 461

Take the free bus from behind Tesco's to "Futurum Shopping center" (obchodni centrum) or tram 2 to Ořechovská (the Tesco stop). The Tesco´s is near the main train station, and the free bus has its stop right near the pedestrain bridge between the two big buildings. Once at the shopping center you will find a Tesco gas station, but most the people there are just staying in town. Better to walk south a few hundred meters to the Unicorn station down the way or continue a few more stops south with the tram (number 2 ?). Instead of holding a sign for "Wien" you could try "Mikulov" as well. It is the last city in Czech Republic just right at the border. There you will find another gas station and also good places for hitching with a sign.

Northeast towards Prostějov, Olomouc, Ostrava 1E 462
+ east towards Kroměříž, Zlín 1
+ east towards Uherské Hradiště, Trenčín 50E 50

Take tram number 8. to station Krásného, from the station go to the overbridge. To Olomouc you will stay over head 30 minutes.

You can also take the trolleybus number 33 from the railway station (Hlavní nádraží) to the station Langrova (it takes 13 minutes). Cross the street and go up the street Slavkovská, after two minutes you come to a main road which you also cross and continue on a footpath straight for another 50 meters to a petrol station which already lies on a highway.

Hitchhiking in

From Prague 1E 50E 65

If your driver is not going to the city but continues this motorway you can tell him to go to Vienna exit, about 150 m turn right (first possibility) and go back on smaller road. The road then leads under big Vídeňská street, you can get off there and go up to the tram stop. And driver continues to the roundabout and can easily get back to D1 in his direction. (About 1 km longer for driver in total.)

Or at Bratislava exit there is shopping centre Avion from where you can take free bus to the city centre. Driver can easily get back to D1 too (about 2 km longer for him).

If driver goes in direction Vienna or Bratislava it's quite clear where to get off.

From Vienna R 52E 461 or Bratislava 2E 65

If your driver isn't going to the city but continue to D1: On both roads are big shopping centre just before D1, you can get off there and get to the city by tram/buses.
