That will be a bit tricky. Highway 1 continues strait if you continue eastbound. There is no town until GOLDEN. Field is only a hotel and a roadhouse - as far as I remember. A little town on the left side, away from the Highway. Gas station Golden right at the highway, its quite big, you should get all your supplies you need there. Hitchhiking from there is ok too. === Revelstoke === Highly recommendable, small and beautiful mountain town, beautiful river and small lake to swim in with the locals on hot summers day. Hiking in the national park of Revelstoke is recommendable, too. There are easy and difficult trails. Take the car up there (many curves). If you're camping in town, be aware that there are numerous black bears that roam the town at night, so stash your food away from your camp. An other alternative is to walk, from the gas station up the service road to the Hwy 1, and Hwy 23 intersection. While this indicates that hitchhiking should be legal when standing on the shoulder of a highway, law enforcement may not be aware of the details of this legislation.
In practice however, hitchhiking is very popular and very easy in most parts of BC. Other than where signposts expressly prohibit it, and around Vancouver, hitchhiking is perfectly fine, and you will not have any problem from the police.

[[User:Bella|Bella]] and a friend were hitch hiking a little bit of Vancouver island and from Vancouver to Alberta and didn't have a problem. Police roll on by without uttering a word as it is legal.
