Hiking in the national park of Revelstoke is recommendable, too. There are easy and difficult trails. Take the car up there (many curves). If you're camping in town, be aware that there are numerous black bears that roam the town at night, so stash your food away from your camp. While this indicates that hitchhiking should be legal when standing on the shoulder of a highway, law enforcement may not be aware of the details of this legislation.
In practice however, hitchhiking is very popular and very easy in most parts of BC.
