There are different schools of hitchhiking that advocate different styles. For some people standing next to the road is the true hitchhiking, for others asking people directly at the petrol station is the best way. Some of the styles are very country depended - asking people directly at petrol stations is very efficient and effective in [[Germany]], the Russian hitching club scene developed very early on special (member) suites.
