Arad is a city in western Romania, the capital of Arad County. It is one of the country's main transit points to Hungary.

Transport

Arad is the most important trans-European road and rail transportation junction point in western Romania, included in the 4th Pan-European Corridor linking Western Europe to South-Eastern European and Middle Eastern countries. The city has an extensive light rail network and a few bus lines. Arad International Airport, with a cargo terminal, is situated 4km from downtown Arad.

Hitchhiking out

North from Arad there are two rail roads very close to each other that make traffic go extremely slow. (Google Map link) This is an excellent area for hitchhiking! Especially for going east and west, but possibly also any other direction.

Northeast to Oradea, Cluj-Napoca E 671

Go to Podgoria (you will also see signs there for these directions).

Southeast towards Deva, Sibiu, Bucharest E 68

Take the tram that goes towards Vladimirescu. You can either go out at Real hypermarket or continue with the same tram to Vladimirescu and hitch from there.

South to Timisoara E 671

You can walk through the bridge at the end of Calea Romanilor. From there take the bus number #3b till it turns left from the road. Locals use this spot too.
