Aoraki/Mt Cook is one of the most beautiful places in New Zealand.
Hitching out
There is an intersection where the road from the main village and the Hooker Valley Road meet. Standing just beyond this intersection will have all the cars from the entirety of Mt Cook going past. If you can only get a ride out to state highway 8 going the opposite direction to yourself take it then walk to the info centre 1 km north up the road towards Lake Pukaki where plenty of cars going both directions which stop to have a view of the insanely beautiful lake.
