A50 (Netherlands)

The A50 is a highway in the Netherlands, going from Einhoven in the south till Emmeloord in the north of the country.

It passes the cities of Eindhoven, nearly Den Bosch, Nijmegen, Arnhem, Apeldoorn and Zwolle.

  • Chance to get over to the A59 towards Den Bosch.
• Gas station Ganzeveen/De Gagel (good)
  • Both gas stations are good, but stupid constructed. Two lanes are going like 500 meter until they meet and go up the highway, so standing at the end is senseless, cars will be already too fast. Choose the lane you think is more crowded, or ask directly at the gas station. Easy for direction Den Bosch and Nijmegen.

  • Chance to get over on the A73, bringing you into the city of Nijmegen.

  • Useful gasstation towards 's-Hertogenbosch, Eindhoven or Venlo.

  • Useful gasstation towards Utrecht, Apeldoorn or Oberhausen (Germany). Also useful to go to Arnhem; walk along the forest 700 meter north till the tunnel with road N224 (Netherlands) which leads into town (busstop to hitchhike into Arnhem).
• Knooppunt Grijsoord
  • Chance to get over to the A12 towards Utrecht and Den Haag.
• Gas station De Schaars (good).
  • Useful gasstation towards Utrecht, 's-Hertogenbosch, Eindhoven or Venlo. This is a busy gasstation. It is possible to get nearby from Arnhem by public transport, then walk to it by the side of the motorway and forest. However, there is a high fence around which is impossible to climb. In the end of 2007 there was a hole in the fence however. To be sure, you may have to take a tool for cutting away one line of barbed wire. This will grant access to this service area ;). From here it is easy to go to all cities in the west of the Netherlands, and it is one of the best places in the east of the Netherlands to find a ride to Brabant or Limburg.
• Knooppunt Waterberg (average) to the west. This junction is combined with A12 ramp 26. Cars cannot stop on the ramp to the west, but it is quite easy to get a ride from the traffic lights, and every car can take you to the next great petrol station.
  • Chance to get over to the A12 towards Zevenaar and Oberhausen (Germany).
• 20 Arnhem-Centrum only to the north (average)/ (good) heading north.
  • Three minutes walk from junction Waterberg, where there is a busstop for regional buses from Arnhem to Apeldoorn.
