A1 (Netherlands)

The Dutch highway A1 (Dutch: Rijksweg) begins in the east of Amsterdam at the junction Watergraafsmeer and ends into the German highway A30 in the east of the country.

Along the way it passes the cities of Amersfoort, Apeldoorn, Deventer, Hengelo, Oldenzaal and Enschede.

Hitching the A1

  • (1) Ramp Diemen-Noord
  • (2) Ramp Diemen
  • Knooppunt Diemen (highway junction), chance to get on to the highway A9.
  • (3) Ramp Muiden If you want to go eastwards, walk up his ramp until you find a delivery road. Walk along this for some meters until you reach the service station Honswijck!  
  • Service Station Honswijck/Hackelaar Good gas station (on both sides) to get lifts towards Amsterdam or on the other side towards all of the Netherlands.  
  • (4) Ramp Muiderslot Ramp towards Amsterdam, directly connected with a service station. If you want to go towards Amsterdam, it's your spot!  
  • Knooppunt Muiderberg (highway junction), chance to get on to the highway A6.
  • (5) Ramp Naarden-West
 
Ramp in Oldenzaal-Zuid, on the last meters of the A1
  • (6) Ramp Naarden-Vesting
  • (7) Ramp Bussum
  • (8) Ramp Blaricum
  • (9) Ramp Laren
  • Knooppunt Eemnes (highway junction), chance to get on to the highway A27.
  • (10) Ramp Soest
  • (11) Ramp Eembrugge
  • (12) Ramp Bunschoten
  • Service Station Neerduist, only on lane towards direction Amsterdam. Good to get lifts towards Amsterdam.  
  • (13) Ramp Amersfoort-Noord
  • Knooppunt Hoevelaken (highway junction), chance to get on the highway A28.
  • (14) Ramp Hoevelaken
  • (15) Ramp Barneveld, also junction towards the Dutch A30.
  • (16) Ramp Voorthuizen
  • Service Station Tolnegen, on both sides. Good for lifts towards Amersfoort, Utrecht or Apeldoorn.  
  • (17) Ramp Stroe
  • Parking Area Jool-Hul, only on lane towards direction Oldenzaal.
  • (18) Ramp Kootwijk
  • Service Station Lucasgat/De Hucht, on both sides. Not that much traffic, but doable.  
  • (19) Ramp Hoenderloo
  • (20) Ramp Apeldoorn-Zuid
  • Knooppunt Beekbergen (highway junction), chance to get on to the highway A50.
  • (21) Ramp Voorst
  • Service Station De Paal/Vundelaar, on both sides, great to get lifts further towards Germany or Amersfoort and Utrecht.  
  • (22) Ramp Twello
  • (23) Ramp Deventer
  • (24) Ramp Deventer-Oost
  • (25) Ramp Bathmen
  • (26) Ramp Lochem
  • Service Station Bolder/Struik, on both sides, many cars, easy to get lifts towards Germany.  
  • (27) Ramp Markelo
  • (28) Ramp Rijssen
  • Knooppunt Azelo (highway junction), chance to get on the highway A35 towards Almelo.
  • (29) Ramp Borne-West
  • Knooppunt Buren, chance to get on the highway A35 towards Enschede.
  • (30) Ramp Hengelo
  • (31) Ramp Hengelo-Noord Quite good spot for hitchhiking westwards, traffic lights will slow down cars for you. Hitching towards Germany isn't that good, most cars only go further to Oldenzaal, but take your chance if you get a lift to Oldenzaal-Zuid!  
  • Service Station t' Lonnekermeer, only direction Oldenzaal. Last service station before Germany and for the next 120km! Best chance for you to get cars towards Germany or even Poland (trucks!).  
  • (32) Ramp Oldenzaal
  • (33) Ramp Oldenzaal-Zuid The ramp for you if you come from Enschede! Easy to get cars towards Germany, average waiting time 7 minutes! In the other direction also a busy ramp for traffic towards the whole country.  
  • (34) Ramp De Lutte Small ramp with a tiny gas station before, but no real traffic exept some trucks. Don't try it here, better walk the 1km towards the border along the highway! (But await for cops who ask you stupid questions)
