Remember Portuguese people are quite nice, so smile and ask for help. You will be glad. If you are hitch hiking out of Faro towards Lisbon, Coibra Coimbra or Porto, it is quite simple. Walk towards the main train station and then just follow the road towards the Jumbo Shopping mall. From the Faro city center to this mall it is a walk or about 1.4 kms or less , cross the Jumbo Mall in the direction of airport and then there is a Gas Station. Wait patiently at this Gas Station and you can easily hitch hike to Albufeira, Lagos which also have the highway toll and national going through them all the way up North.
Make sure you get a ride with someone who is ready to drop you at the highway gas station or a good point on the national road towards Lisbon. While heading to Lisbon which is fairly easy, if you are able to get to a gas station or good spot on National road in direction of Lisbon ensure you wait patiently to catch a ride with someone who is going all the way to LISBON. If you are impatient you may end up in various small places or towns which may be difficult to get out of.
